Crossing the rubicon…
… into the blogosphere
S
omeone once conjectured that if every bon mot, aphorism, witticism and word of wisdom attributed to Winston Churchill had actually been said by Winston Churchill, then he would have needed to live at least twice as long as he did and spoken non-stop for most of his waking hours. Something similar can be said of William and Catherine Booth, the founders of The Salvation Army. In Salvationist circles they tend to be quoted extensively (at times in support of some rather dodgy practices, it needs to be said) with some of their more well-known sayings accorded almost the same reverence as Scripture. Almost. There is little doubt that much of what they are purported to have said is apocryphal. However, one quite famous assertion that can be verified as having issued from the very lips of Catherine was: “It is necessary to disturb the present in order to improve the future.”
At theRubicon, we feel the need to stir things up a bit and therefore, hopefully, to create a better future by some calculated disturbance. So, as of this coming Monday (September 24th) we are introducing some regular blogger/columnists. Their disturbances will appear on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while we continue to post our print and audio selections on Tuesdays and Thursdays. One blogger is Canadian, one American and one British. This means that on weekdays there will be something new and disturbing popping up on theRubicon each and every weekday! We would like to print a disclaimer at this point absolving theRubicon of any and all responsibility for the ideas and opinions that will be expressed in these blogs…but as we head-hunted and recruited each of these guys, that wouldn’t be the truth. So let the chips fall where they may.
We would like to post on the weekends as well, but are in need of one more blogger who will either appear on Saturday or Sunday (we are not Sabbatarians). This “missing blogger” needs to be a woman (as our other three are men) and she needs to hail from the general vicinity of the Antipodes (that would be either Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand or Fiji). If any of you know of someone, or are yourself “someone”, who might be up for this challenge - please get in touch with us at: editor.therubicon@gmail.com
The addition of bloggers is only one of the changes and improvements planned for theRubicon as we continue to dance as fast as we can in order to keep up with your thirst for knowledge, your appetite for controversy, your love of ideas…and your short attention spans.
Improving the future,
TheRubicon team
