Solitude & Sin… Yet again

Three poems by Adely Thélus Charles

SIN?

Like a villain it stalks us day & night;
Seducing everything in its sight.
Diggin’ our grave it its mission,
For it will find no better satisfaction.

A sinful life resulting in eternity in Hell,
Shouldn’t be our destiny.
For God didn’t put us under a spell,
Knowing that His promise is life eternally.

Salvation is free to those who are lost,
For Jesus Christ definitely paid the cost.
Oh! What a day that will be,
When the Son of man comes and sets us free.

YET AGAIN!

Lord it’s one of those times again,
Where I wonder why I m such a distant friend,
To the One whom gave His One and only Son for me,
In order to pardon and set me free.
Keeping myself so busy with me, myself and me,
As brought a gap in my walk with Thee.
This roller-coaster ride is driving me crazy,
Making me dizzy, weary, and empty.
Please bring me back into your presence,
Help me draw near rather than keep away from a distance.
Clear my conscience of any decadence,
Keep me from taking part in any nonsense.
I will not let go of your sight no matter the circumstance,
For only in you can I be given another chance,
To be restored to the wonderful radiance,
That once occupied my heart and gave me a solid stance.
I am getting too passive and lethargic,
I need strength to remain alert and energetic,
To proceed on this journey toward Christ-likeness,
In order to please God rather than bring myself stress.
Lord, I will continue to seek you,
To give you all the honor and glory you are due.
Please, forgive thy servant for having been so slow to move,
In your presence where he can alone be found approved.
I love you Jesus, my Lord!
Yet again, I love you.

SOLITUDE?

A state of mind one fears,
Never again to come near.
Is there such a thing?
Such pain and emptiness,
We all feel in those times of distress,
Not knowing what to do next,
We always fail the test.
But, is there still such a thing?

What a fool we make of ourselves,
Always entrapping our being in a cell.
Why, Oh! Why are we putting on a play?
For God surely didn’t intend it to be this way.

Life is beautiful and wonderful,
Once we don’t dwell in solitude.
For Jesus Christ the Son,
Is the One we can count on.

Now, ain’t that som’!

Writer: Adely Thélus Charles was born in Montreal, Canada on November 25, 1980. His parents, Majors Jean Métélus Charles & Adeline Charles were Corps officers in Montreal at the time of his birth. Seven months after his birth, his parents received a transfer to go to their homeland of Haiti as Corps officers of the Central Corps there. Such would the beginning of a journey of transfers. The year now is 1981.

  • From 1981-1985, Adely grew up as a toddler in Port-au-Prince, Haiti with his two older brothers, Olguy & Ludas Charles were he did his pre-K years.
  • From 1985-1990, Adely grew up as a teenager in Cayenne, French Guyana were he did his elementary years in school.
  • From 1990-1995, Adely went back to Haiti where he did most of his primary school in both Fonds-des-Nègres (two years, south of Haiti) and Port-au-Prince (3 years, capital)
  • In 1995 – present, Adely moved to the United States (Miami, Florida) where he finished high school (1997) and did his undergrad (A.A. & B.A. in Music- 1998-2003) and graduate years (M.A. in Religion 2004-2006).

Adely started to be interested in poetry after he gave his life to the Lord in the summer of 1997 at Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian, Texas at TYI (Territorial Youth Institute – Southern Territory). The poems written are just a journey penned of his emotional and spiritual life through words. From break-ups, to finding love, falling in sin, repenting of sin and etc. Being a Christian in the United States has not been easy for him, but through the power of the Holy Spirit he has been able to live as holy as a sinner saved by grace.

Adely is now involved with The Salvation Army Miami Area Command where he is the Music director. He also is a professional musician who plays with the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church “Remnant of Praise” Mass Choir in Pompano Beach, Florida. He loves the Lord and the verse that he lives by is 1st Timothy 4:12. To God be the glory for all He has done in my life.
