Clinical Methods of Therapy Used

All of the clinical methods we use at our treatment center are Evidence-based Practices (EBP).

These methods are all designed to increase the quality of treatment and to increase accountability – patients only pay for and undergo treatments that have been proven effective.

ACT – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

An approach that uses mindfulness and acceptance techniques to increase psychological flexibility. Interventions focus on developing distance from negative emotions and encouraging committed action on behalf of one's values.

CBT – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

A form of psychotherapy that focuses on challenging irrational beliefs and implementing effective behavioral coping skills. CBT is one of the most widely-used therapies in the world, and is considered a first-line treatment for several disorders by the American Psychological Association (APA).

DBT – Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

A skill-based approach that breaks down into four areas - distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Originally developed for use with severe personality disorders, DBT is also now widely used in treating substance use and related disorders.

MI - Motivational Interviewing

A person-centered approach to counseling that centers around the discrepancy between a client's values and their using behavior. Treatment focuses on helping a client to feel comfortable, engaged, and heard.

Trauma-Informed Treatment

Among the various conditions that co-occur with and contribute to substance use disorders, a history of trauma can be a uniquely powerful and challenging factor. The Rubicon is committed to sensitivity towards the client's trauma history and tailors individual treatment accordingly.

CRAFT- Community Reinforcement and Family Therapy

An approach to substance use treatment that uses pragmatic behavioral coaching and educates family members skills in rapport building, positive reinforcement, communication and problem solving, supporting clean/sober behavior, and discouraging using behavior. CRAFT also teaches families motivational techniques and domestic violence safety precautions. CRAFT also educates clients on how to analyze substance use patterns, how and when to intervene with treatment, and how to support the client once treatment has started and ended.
